Poem 29:Connect Town: Height of Summer

A remake

Connect Town: Height of Summer

Why would people ever wear high heels?
Six foot tall, I wasn’t before
and I hate it,
more than rain,
more than a kickboxing penguin of pain.
I tilt my head to look down but I was told.
Never look down or else you’ll fall.
So high, the floor seems a blur
I’m going dizzy and feeling sick
Children walk past without a care
they can never imagine the fears,
not yet, but maybe if they are unlucky.
Then one child is lifted up
piggy back rides as punishment
I was OK at five feet and  hoped the day wouldn’t come.
But it did I’m six feet four, the fall is tall.
And I fall.

A drop in which I lie flat.
Everything feels much safer now.
As I snake through the streets, top cop ‘Malone’ appears.
I wasn’t looking up skirts I say.
Too late he drags me away.
