The Prodigy is the type of dance I side with, but I’ve never actually heard it out. What gives? Do I just go to the wrong places? Clearly. The places which don’t play outnumber, but I have no guns.
Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned is dance without the bubbles, each track feeling like it’s been dragged through the mud and over discarded needles. It’s a good feeling for those who like to dance to music which isn’t so sugary sweet and lovey dovey. ‘Spitfire‘ is a fiery entry to the beats that follow, and while it can feel a bit muddled from all the mud it’s been wallowing in, this is great dance party noise which has ‘Girls‘ to lure in the uninitiated and ‘Wake Up Call‘ to wake them to this new world. It even has a semblance of meaning thanks to the excellent finisher ‘Shoot Down‘ which makes you wary that the party is about to close. Time really is running out for us all. A shame a lot of the in-between meld into forgettable noise. But fine when you’re intoxicated.
An album to listen to when you want to set off your own dance party. Alone.
